Knowing your pet’s astrology sign is a cool way of learning more about your pet’s personality. But what if you don’t know your pet’s birthday?
There are three levels of knowledge when it comes to your pet’s birthday.
1. Exact Birthday
If you got your pet from a breeder, you’ll know your pet’s exact birthday. Often it will be on the paperwork you received with your pet, or if there isn’t any paperwork, the breeder will know your animal’s birth date. I have a Siamese kitty, but I didn’t get any formal paperwork (I didn’t need it because I wasn’t planning to breed or show the cat), but the breeder did have extensive records on my kitty, and knew he was born on January 7th. Ask them for the birthdate even if you don’t get any paperwork.
Also, if you adopted your pet from the family the pet was born to, they should know or remember the birthday. For example, their dog gave birth to puppies, and you adopted one of those puppies. Ask them what date the puppies were born. Years ago, I adopted a kitten from a local shelter, and because the kitty’s mama had been brought into the shelter when she was pregnant, the volunteers at the shelter remembered that my kitten was born on March 1st.

2. Birthday Range
It may be that your pet’s previous family doesn’t remember their exact birthday, but they know a time range. They may tell you the animal was born “the week before Christmas,” or “around the middle of June.” Have this date range ready for our exercise later in the article.
3. General Age
In many cases, you won’t know a specific week, or even the month of your pet’s birthday. This is often true if you’ve adopted an older pet, or if you find a stray. This can make it tricky to determine your pet’s birthday, but I have an exercise for you to do, so that we can pick a birthdate for your pet. Keep reading!
If you fall into the first category, and know your pet’s exact birthday, then you’re in great shape. You can move on to What’s Your Pet’s Sign and find their astrology sign based on their birthday.
Exercise to determine your pet’s birthday
Step 1
If you’re in category two, and your pet has a birthday range, then write down that range and move on to the next step.
If you fall into category three, and only know a general age, then we have some work to do! We need to know approximately how old your pet is.
When you got your new pet, you likely took them to the vet for a checkup and shots. How old did the vet think your pet was? This is your starting point.
I once rescued a kitty from a city park. It was a very cold February day, and she was skinny, cold and scared. I took her home and fed her, and later that week took her for a checkup. The vet told me the kitty was between 6-8 months old.
Since this was February 17th, I knew that put the cat’s birthday roughly between June 17th and August 17th (6-8 months earlier).
Step 2
Start with the birthday range, either if you know approximately what week the animal was born, or go by how many months old it is, according to the vet. Determine the range, then Click Here and read through the Pet Personality Guides for the date range you have identified. If you just have a one week range, and it’s smack in one sign, then just choose the date you want for your pet’s birthday. If your date range covers more than one sign, read each of the descriptions and pick the one that best describes your pet’s personality. Then once you’ve picked a sign, you can choose a birth date for your pet in that sign.
For my rescue kitty, I knew she was likely born between June 17th and August 17th. This meant she was either a Gemini, Cancer or Leo cat. I knew her personality a bit by then since I’d had her for almost a week, and I knew she best fit as a Gemini cat. Gemini birthdays are between May 22 and June 21, so I picked a date in that timeframe (and I picked a date after June 17th since I was going by the age the vet thought she was). I chose June 19th. And for the next 17 years my sweet little tuxedo kitty and I celebrated her birthday on June 19th.
I know it’s not a very scientific way of choosing a birthdate, but in some cases, it will be your only option.
If your animal is several years old, and it’s impossible to narrow down to a range of months, like I could do with my stray kitty, then it may be best to read through the descriptions for all twelve signs and pick the one that best represents your pet’s personality. Then you can choose a birthday during that date range.
